New Podcast out now

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) remains under-recognised both by patients and doctors. Given the high benefit/cost ratio of treating OSA, it is clearly desirable to identify as many patients as possible. This is despite most sleep units in the UK being overloaded with long waiting lists for diagnosis and treatment.

Given the high prevalence of OSA, it is very unlikely that the diagnosis can remain an exclusively secondary care activity. This podcast describes the experience of hospitals and GPs liaising to improve the diagnosis of OSA, with major benefits to both patients and services. Our guests, Professor John Stradling, Dr Ian Smith and Dr Robert Kaufman, discuss how you could put GP screening into practice in your local area.

“We are very aware that for vocational drivers, quick access to treatment can make the difference between an individual either deciding to seek help, or deciding on the alternative of continuing to drive because they are fearful they will lose their licence, and thus their livelihood”.
F.W. Johnston. B.A., F.C.A. Chairman of SATA.
